Adam Lefton is known for the significant role he played in transforming Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) into a four-billion-dollar-a-year company. Serving in various positions at CTCA during his 11 years with CTCA, including the role of VP Brand Development and Strategy, Mr. Lefton was responsible for creating and implementing direct to consumer branding, marketing strategies, and patient acquisition. Prior to joining CTCA, Mr. Lefton served as CFO and VP of Publishing Operations of one of the largest division of McGraw Hill. Mr. Lefton currently oversees all marketing, financial, administrative operations of Empowered Patient.
While at CTCA, Adam devised the strategy and led the development efforts for one of the largest healthcare-specific social media destinations ever built – CancerCompass. Conceived as a non-CTCA-branded destination website where anyone and everyone touched by cancer could congregate, express their thoughts and concerns, share their stories, ask questions, and support one another, 15 years later the site still gets over a half a million visitors a month and influences the treatment decisions made by millions of cancer patients and caregivers every year.
Russell W. Allen has built marketing and technology teams that launched Empowered Media, Empowered Builder and Empowered Doctor into successful and profitable companies. Empowered Patient will combine his experience and expertise with the team he assembled of industry experts.
In October of 2005, Russ made a deal with Medizine (now Health Central) to form a new venture – Empowered Medical Media. Empowered Medical Media quickly launched its main portal empowereddoctor.com. Empowered Doctor ran as a subscription based marketing solution for medical practices generating thousands of leads for medical practices. In 2008 Empowered purchased the Medizine interest when it was sold to a private equity firm.
Empowered Doctor focused on connecting patients with doctors, dentists and other healthcare service providers, on a subscription basis. Zocdoc is now the dominate player in that market. As changes in the healthcare insurance and search marketplace have significantly impacted medical service providers, Russ and his team took a step back to reimagine and retool the agency model. The Strategic Plan also reflects our understanding of the needs of medical facilities offering their cancer treatment services. Empowered Patient Inc. will initially launch in the cancer market and expand where profitable opportunities emerge. Empowered Patient is being launched at a time when traditional broadcast media is seeking new business models.
Stuart Diamond has managed the content generation of EmpoweredDoctor.com for 10 years. His editorial team has syndicated content to Tribune, Gannett Newspaper and WCBS websites. His team has produced over 2,500 health related news stories (over 800 related to cancer). The vast majority of these stories include video. Mr. Diamond is also the media producer for The National Physician of the Year Awards. In addition, he has produced media and educational programs for leading corporate and non-profit organizations, including nationally syndicated television programming. Mr. Diamond also visits colleges around the country as a Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellow, promoting the importance of liberal arts education.
Borkowski is an in demand visionary and strategic leader, translating business strategies into maximum proﬁt. As the chief growth officer for Empowered Patient, Chip leads the efforts for Practical Innovation via his proven TransMedia models. He leads the Innovations Team, which develops new business opportunities, markets and service models; drives brand value; and partners with the best of the best to enhance Empowered Patient’s unique offerings. Borkowski’s responsibilities also include strategic alliances; sponsorship sales; and marketing + communications.
